Growing live plants in a vivarium or terrarium and including live reptiles has always been very difficult. Reptiles need access to the correct lighting including U.V.A and U.V.B. this is an essential part of the captive reptile life support system. Unfortunately U.V lamps tend to burn live plants and hamper good growth. Very recently Arcadia launched a brand new high output T5 plant growth lamp. Primarily for Aquatic use. This lamp emits light at the correct wavelength (650nms) for photosynthesis. The use of a lamp that forces growth not only off sets the U.V burn but will cause certain species of plant to “blush”. This up until now has been almost impossible to obtain in captivity. The use of an energy efficient and flicker free twin electronic control unit will enable easy fitting of the lamps. These bright light sources should be used with the correct reflector to “harness” the true power of the lamp. A good partnership of lamps would be the high output T5 D3 lamp and the original tropical pro side by side. This would be perfect for many species that would benefit from live plants like Diurnal snakes including GTP and carpets, Amphibians, chameleons, water dragons, day geckos and cresties and a whole host more...
