Surrey Pet Supplies is proud of its well-stocked Education Centre located on the same site as the retail outlet, in Hersham, Surrey. This large Educational Centre is a unique feature of the company, offering visitors a chance to learn so much about pets, their requirements and welfare. Many different species of pets live happily at the centre - and what a ‘good life' they have too. The standards of care at the centre are very high.

The concept behind the Education Centre is simple – its education. Local people can see animals that are not for sale, talk to staff and ask as many questions as they like. Questions are answered first hand by those who look after the pets each and every day. Visitors can see how big different pets grow, and what equipment, housing and space they will need. Information sheets and lists of breeders are available at the centre for those who have definitely decided that a particular pet is right for their home, family
and lifestyle.

Home comforts
Pets living at Surrey Pet Supplies Education Centre enjoy a great variety of specialist food, lots of attention and luxuries items! The animals in the Education Centre are able to take advantage of the most up-to-date equipment and enjoy the new toys and varieties of treats available. With 18,000 food and accessory lines in the same building, these pets certainly don't go short!

Plenty of company
Between 9 and 5.30pm on weekdays and 9 and 5pm on Saturdays, visitors of all ages are able to enjoy seeing many kinds of pets from the popular bunny, mouse or guinea pig, to some unusual pets (they would normally only see in books).

Education, education, education
Surrey Pet Supplies
realize how important education is in the world of pets. Regularly local people donate pets to the centre, as they are no longer able to cope. People often say they did not realize how much space, time, money and commitment was needed to take care of the pet properly.

One of the largest birds in the world
Some spectacular pets live at the centre including a Green Winged Macaw who measures 40-inches from head to tail. Named Bella, this Macaw is the second largest species of Macaw in the world. Her beak can easily crush a walnut shell with seemingly no effort
at all!

'Samson' has grown to 7-foot
A real crowd puller, and quite a local celebrity is ‘Samson' the resident 7-foot Green Iguana. ‘Samson' is an amazing and unusual creature, which feeds on kale and salad, and enjoys basking under a special light and walking round the shop on a lead and harness. In October 2005 ‘Samson' arrived at Surrey Pet Supplies looking rather bedraggled. Poor ‘Samson' had been living in a garage without the right lighting or care. When he first arrived he had a broken tail and foot. Luckily Surrey Pet Supplies rescued this lovely creature and nursed him back to perfect health.

With the growing interest in reptiles and exotic pets (and the specialist care they need), the centre is ideally positioned for teaching people about spiders, tarantulas, snakes, dragons and lizards, to name a few. On the reptile side, a NEW breeding programme is planned at the centre and this will be fascinating. The programme involves the reproduction of creatures such as corn snakes and geckos. The breeding programme will feature hatching, incubation, equipment and heating. Feeding times in the reptile section are always popular too!

Making educating fun for youngsters
At the Surrey Pet Supplies Education Centre children, in particular, love to see pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters. Brownies find themselves at the centre as part of the ‘knowing animals and caring for them' Brownie Badge. To pass the badge, groups of Brownies visit the centre for an hour-long talk followed by a test. Everybody involved with the Brownies Badges say the kids are inspiring and great to teach.

More unusual pets
Slightly more unusual pets such as chinchillas, chipmunks, tortoises, turtles and frogs all live at the Education Centre too. Visitors can be educated in their care, feeding, good and sometimes not so pleasant behaviours. Large aviaries with stunning selections of birds are also on show. Malaysian Bantams and pheasants have recently moved in too. So, next time you are in the area pop in and say “hi” to all the animals and staff!
